Year 3 Traffic Survey on Bilford Road

This week, Year 3 became geographers as they carried out a traffic survey on Bilford Road! As part of their geography topic on land use, they wanted to find out how different types of traffic use the area.

What Did We Do?

Equipped with tally charts and sharp observation skills, Year 3 stood at different points along Bilford Road and counted:

Cars

Buses

Lorries

Cyclists

They worked in teams to record how busy the road was and what types of transport passed by.

What Did We Discover?

– Cars were the most common vehicles on the road.

– Buses and lorries used the road too, showing it’s an important route for both public transport and deliveries.

– Lots of people walked and cycled, especially near the pedestrian crossing.

Why Is This Important?

Understanding traffic helps geographers and city planners decide how land is used. Year 3 have considered that roads and footpaths are important in connecting residential, commercial, recreational and industrial areas together. Roads, pavements, and cycle lanes need to be designed so that everyone can travel safely.
