Year 1 Autumn Adventures

We’ve had a fantastic start to Year 1! The children have settled in brilliantly after their move up from Reception and are already showing great enthusiasm for their learning.

As part of our science topic, we have been exploring the signs of Autumn around our school grounds. The children loved going on a nature walk, spotting colourful leaves, acorns, and berries. We also picked apples from our very own school trees – and of course, we couldn’t resist tasting them. They were absolutely delicious!

To make the start of term even more exciting, we had a very special surprise… a penguin arrived in our classroom! The children were full of questions and wonder, and we can’t wait to see how our new feathery friend will help inspire our learning this half term. Our focus text is Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers, and the children are already enjoying exploring the story. We carefully followed Oliver Jeffers’ step-by-step instructions for how to draw a penguin, and the children worked so hard on their artwork that we decided to send some pictures to Oliver Jeffers himself – we hope he loves them as much as we do!

It’s been a busy, fun-filled start to Year 1, and we’re looking forward to lots more adventures ahead! 🐧🍎🍂
