Over this half term in art, Year 4 have been exploring the wonderful world of illustrations in story books. The children looked closely at how illustrations help to tell a story, create atmosphere and bring characters to life.

As part of this project, the children studied the work of illustrators Laura Carlin and Shaun Tan. They explored the different techniques, styles and materials these artists use and discussed how illustrations can make us feel and think in different ways.

For their final piece, the children created their own illustrations inspired by the poem The Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll. Using all the skills they had learnt over the half term, they carefully planned and developed their ideas, experimenting with texture, colour and mixed media.

We were completely blown away by their amazing efforts. The children showed fantastic imagination, creativity and determination, and it was wonderful to see them putting all of the techniques and materials we taught them into practice.

We are incredibly proud of Year 4 and we’re sure you’ll agree that their work looks simply incredible!
